Controlling high blood sugar levels

If blood sugar levels increase...

Sugars, such as starch contained in food, decompose into glucose and become absorbed into the blood. When we are healthy, the concentration of glucose, known as blood sugar level, is controlled and kept under a certain level. However, if we become unable to regulate the level of glucose and blood sugar levels increase, we become glucose intolerant. This is called diabetes and is a very dangerous life-style related disease.
Tea catechins suppress the increase of blood sugar.

Starch, which we consume in our daily diet, is broken down into smaller units by enzymes and then absorbed by the small intestine.
Undoubtedly, excess sugar intake is dangerous. Tea catechins work to suppress the decomposition enzyme, so the starch is not broken down so much and absorption is moderate. Accordingly, an increase in blood sugar is suppressed.

Experimental results
Experiment related to tea catechins' blood sugar suppressive function

We studied the effect of tea catechins on the sugar load of humans. It was confirmed from results of blood tests that an increase in blood sugar level was suppressed by the intake of tea catechins 30 minutes before taking starch (A) or sucrose (B).
By suppressing the absorption of sugar, the prevention of life-style related diseases and weight control can be expected.

*Starch…compounds lining up in chains
*Sucrose…commonly called sugar, main component of sweets
